Avago's Extended Temperature 2.5A Gate Drive Optocouplers for Industrial Apps
Avago Technologies today announced an extended temperature 2.5 Amp gate drive optocouplers for use in a wide range of industrial applications. Avago's ACPL-312U, which is a member of the R2CouplerTM family, incorporates an alloy lead frame to offer superior heat dissipation, which allows it to operate over an extended industrial temperature range from -40 to 125 degrees C. NXP launches TVS diodes and claims highest surge capability in FlatPower package
NXP Semiconductors has announced a range of transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diodes housed in its new FlatPower package, SOD123W. Offering a 400 W peak pulse power rating (10/1000µs), the new diodes dissipate app. 67 W/mm2 surge per PCB area. This is more than twice the surge capability on offer in the market by TVS products in similar packages. Such high surge capabilities over smaller areas will enable engineers to save space on the PCB while delivering optimum power performance. It will also allow engineers to integrate more functions on the PCB.
Adjustable Overvoltage Protectors from Maxim
Maxim has introduced the MAX14527/MAX14528 overvoltage protectors (OVPs) designed to protect low-voltage systems against voltage faults up to 28V. These devices employ an internal low, 100milliohm (typ) Ron MOSFET to prevent damage to circuitry from overvoltage conditions. This integration eliminates the need for an external n-channel MOSFET, thus saving board space and reducing cost.

Tiny Dual Hot Swap Controller for Optical Networks from Linear Technology
Linear Technology has introduced the LTC4224, a compact, low voltage Hot Swap controller for protecting boards and backplanes that use two 1V to 6V voltage supplies. Systems, including fiber optic networks, will benefit from the simplified control with independent turn-on and adjustable ramp of the two supplies. In recent years, multisource agreements like XENPAK have defined fiber optic transceiver modules that provide transmission rates up to 10Gbits/sec over distances as long as 80km. Since then, more versatile definitions like X2 or Xpak have emphasized smaller form factors for space-constrained applications.
ON Semiconductor’s New Highly-Integrated Overvoltage Protection IC
ON Semiconductor has introduced the NUS6189, a device that integrates the performance and functions of an overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit, a 30 volt (V) P-channel power MOSFET, a low VCE(sat) transistor and a low Rds(on) power MOSFET into a space-saving 3.0 mm x 4.0 mm x 0.9 mm package. The NUS6189 is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuitry from overvoltage transients and power supply faults. It is optimized for applications that utilize an external AC-DC adapter or car accessory charger such as mobile phones, PMPs and mobile internet devices.
Intertronics launches improved conformal coating

Murata's PRF thermistor series protects power FETs in multiple locations in POL converter applications
The latest addition to Murata's PRF family of chip ceramic thermistors (POSISTORs) is the PRF18xx5RB series, designed for overheat detection of power FETs in point of load (POL) DC-DC converters and other power supply applications. Each part has two temperature sensing points and features characteristic curves that rise very sharply. The series has a resistance of 470 at 25C, rising to 4.7K between 65 and 145C, rising further to 47k between 80 and 150C, depending on the part number. The PRF series is available in tiny 0603 packaging, and is also suitable for detecting overheat conditions in battery packs, motors, power devices and other systems.

Tuning its proprietary iCoupler digital isolation technology to meet the reliability and quality needs of emerging electric-hybrid vehicles, Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) is introducing a family of digital isolators designed to operate in today's electrically challenging automotive environment. Unlike the relatively low-voltage signals powering most in-car entertainment, safety, and power train systems, hybrid-vehicle batteries can operate at voltages in excess of 600 V, which creates a need to galvanically isolate system-critical electronics. Analog Devices' new ADuM120xW, ADuM130xW and ADuM140xW digital isolators were developed for electric-hybrid vehicle systems, such as motor drives and battery management systems. These new iCoupler products are the first digital isolators to carry an AEC-Q100 qualified –40°C to +125°C automotive temperature rating.

Medium power multilayer chip varistors from AVX Corporation are available for transient voltage suppression and ESD protection in telecommunications, designated the Telecom Series – VC14. The devices operate over -55 to 125 degrees Celsius, and meet interference requirements of telecoms equipment with a 2000 V rated test pulse of 10 x 700 µs duration as specified by CCITT or IEC 61000-4-5. For example a 60 Vrms varistor can reduce the interference voltage at the equipment connected from 2 kV to less than 200 V.
