MAX98304: Maxim's 1mm x 1mm Class D amplifier

Maxim introduced the MAX98304, the industry's smallest Class D amplifier at 1mm x 1mm. This amplifier increases output power by 23% to 3.2W and reduces noise by 39% to 19microVrms, as compared to Maxim's previous-generation device. Improved output power allows maximum loudness even as battery voltages decrease, while lower noise allows the use of a more sensitive speaker. Additionally, the amplifier's 0.3mm-pitch, 9-bump wafer-level package (WLP) features a no-connect middle bump to eliminate the need for expensive PCB technologies. This allows the use of single-layer PCBs for reduced manufacturing cost. The MAX98304 is well suited for cell phones, tablets, e-readers, notebooks, and netbooks.

Maxim introduces the MAX11645, the industry's smallest 2-channel ADC. This 12-bit I2C ADC includes an internal reference in a tiny 1.9mm x 2.2mm wafer-level package (WLP). A 4 x 3 bump array with 0.5mm pitch facilitates layout on four-layer PCBs, while a slim 0.64mm height makes it perfect for designs laying components out on both sides of the PCB. This ADC minimizes both external component count and total solution size, only requiring a 0.1microfarad ceramic bypass capacitor on the supply voltage input. Linear Technology introduced the LTC4312 and LTC4314 2-wire bus multiplexers, which provide individual enable pins to connect an upstream I2C bus to any combination of downstream busses or cards. The LTC4312 and LTC4314 are pin-selectable multiplexers with bus buffers that reduce component count while promoting ideal I2C signal integrity. The LTC4312 multiplexes two channels, while the LTC4314 multiplexes four channels. These devices allow easy I2C address expansion, providing the ability to address one of multiple identical devices, thus resolving address conflict issues. Bidirectional capacitive buffering allows extension of the I2C bus size well beyond the 400pF I2C bus specification and prevents I2C signal corruption during live board insertion or removal.
