Toshiba develops leading-edge silicon nanowire transistor for 16nm generation and beyond
Toshiba Corporation announced that it has developed a breakthrough technology for a nanowire transistor, a major candidate for a 3D structure transistor for system LSI in the 16nm generation and beyond. The company has achieved a 1mA/μm on-current, the world's highest level for a nanowire transistor, by reducing parasitic resistance and improving the on-current level by 75%. This is a major step towards practical application of nanowire transistors. This achievement will be presented at the 2010 Symposium on VLSI Technology in Hawaii, on June 17.
Three-phase brushless DC motor pre-driver IC for office automation applications
The A4936 from Allegro MicroSystems Europe is a three-phase brushless DC motor pre-driver IC targeted at applications within the office automation sector including laser printer and copier drum drives. The new device incorporates outputs for the direct high-current gate drive of an all N-channel power MOSFET three-phase bridge with a maximum supply voltage of 38 V. Also included in the A4936 device are three Hall-element inputs, a sequencer for commutation control, fixed off-time pulse width modulation (PWM) current control, and locked-rotor detection.
MAX31C80/D80: New spread-spectrum clock generators provide industry's best EMI noise reduction
Maxim introduced the MAX31C80/MAX31D80 spread-spectrum generators, which provide best-in-class EMI peak-noise reduction. The MAX31C80/MAX31D80 also offer the designer unprecedented flexibility to use any clock frequency or crystal to achieve the desired output frequency. The devices use a high-quality, programmable, fractional PLL with low jitter (< 75ns) to provide a 2MHz to 134MHz output, regardless of crystal or clock input.

MAX98500: Boosted speaker amplifier makes smartphone speakers louder without collapsing battery voltage
Maxim introduced the MAX98500, a boosted 2.2W Class D amplifier designed for battery-operated portable devices. This device integrates a boost converter to provide a constant output power and, therefore, louder audio output over a wide range of battery supply voltages. Additionally, the MAX98500 is uniquely equipped with a battery-tracking automatic-level-control (ALC) circuit that limits the maximum output swing as the supply voltage drops. ALC helps to avoid clipping and prevents the battery voltage from collapsing, which otherwise might cause a reset of the system. The MAX98500 is ideal for cell phones, portable media players, PDAs, netbooks, and other battery-operated audio applications.
MAX9268: Gigabit multimedia serial link deserializer with integrated full-duplex control channel reduces EMI and saves cost
Maxim introduced the latest member of its high-speed LVDS deserializer family: the MAX9268 deserializer with LVDS system interface. When paired with a gigabit multimedia serial link (GMSL) serializer such as the MAX9259 or MAX9249, the MAX9268 forms a complete bidirectional digital video link over a single DC-balanced twisted-pair or differential line. Maxim's patent-pending, differential, full-duplex control channel eliminates the need for an external CAN or LIN interface, thus simplifying design while saving space and reducing cost. This approach enables bidirectional communication with the display module, as well as programming of camera settings through a UART/I2C interface on a frame-by-frame basis. The MAX9259/MAX9268 chipset is ideal for automotive applications such as sign recognition, collision avoidance, night vision, and lane departure.

The highly efficient TPA2015D1 allows more than twice the battery life compared to the nearest competing amplifier and is available in a compact 2-mm x 2-mm WCSP package for space-constrained applications including smart phones, notebooks, portable navigation devices, portable docking station and portable DVD players. In addition, the amplifier incorporates battery monitoring automatic gain control (AGC) and SpeakerGuard technology to prevent early shutdown at low battery voltages and prevents clipping, which protects speakers.

DS3644: Industry's first security manager with hierarchical secure nonimprinting memory and tamper detection
Maxim Integrated Products introduces the DS3644, a security manager with 1024 bytes of nonimprinting memory to securely store sensitive data. Internal tamper monitors protect against clock, electrical, and temperature tampering, while tamper-detection inputs for external sensors enable complete customization. The on-chip nonimprinting memory allows the end user to selectively clear the memory based on user-specified tamper events. This patented memory scheme* ensures immediate data erasure in response to tampering, thus improving system security over SRAM-based implementations. The DS3644 is most appropriate for applications that require a higher level of security, like government and military systems, as well as any application where more than one tamper trigger needs to be monitored.
5 GHz Differential Amplifier Drives Gigasample ADCs on Just 60 mA of Quiescent Current
Analog Devices introduced today the industry's first 5-GHz differential amplifier able to drive ADC (analogue-to-digital converter) signals from DC to 1 GHz at half the power of competing products. The ADA4960-1 differential amplifier is a high-performance, low-distortion, ultra-high-speed differential amplifier effective for a wide variety of high-speed ADCs with 10-bit linearity to 500 MHz and 8-bit linearity up to 1 GHz. The ADA4960-1 differential amplifier can drive a wide variety of ADCs, such as Analog Devices' AD9626 12-bit ADC and the AD9211 10-bit ADC.

Maxim introduced the MAX5970, a dual hot-swap controller for systems with two 0 to 16V supply voltages. This device allows line cards to be safely inserted and removed from a live backplane without causing glitches on the system power-supply rail. Isolated RS485 µModule Transceiver Integrates Isolated Power
Linear Technology has introduced the LTM2881, an isolated RS485 µModule transceiver that guards against large ground-to-ground differentials and common mode transients. In practical RS485 systems, ground potentials vary widely from node to node, often exceeding the tolerable range, which can result in an interruption of communications or destruction of a transceiver. The LTM2881 breaks ground loops by isolating the logic level interface and line transceiver using internal inductive signal isolation that allows for a much larger common mode voltage range plus superior common mode rejection of >30kV/µS.

Hot Swap Controller Allows I2C Monitoring of Board-Level Operation
Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC4280, a 2.9V to 15V Hot Swap controller that features an onboard 8-bit ADC and I2C compatible interface. Integrated digital power monitoring enables sophisticated platform management in high-availability systems, measuring card voltages and currents, as well as recording past and present fault conditions. In such systems, careful monitoring of the health and integrity of the power distribution network is crucial. Information in the ADC registers can be queried via the I2C bus and then used to determine if a card is actually using its allocated power or operating abnormally. The LTC4280 allows an irregular card to be flagged for service before it fails, thereby improving system reliability.
MAX2136: Low-power silicon tuner improves ISDB-T and DVB-T signal reception in terrestrial TV applications
Maxim introduced the MAX2136, a digital terrestrial television tuner for ISDB-T and DVB-T applications. Combining low power consumption with excellent performance, the device achieves a low noise figure of 3.8dB while only consuming 210mW. Additionally, the tuner supports the reception of signals as large as 10dBm while maintaining an excellent sensitivity of -99dBm. On-chip tracking filters, lowpass filters, and LNAs eliminate the need for expensive external components. Offering such an optimum balance between power and performance, the MAX2136 is ideal for automotive TV systems, consumer LCD TVs, and portable navigation devices.

Avago Technologies announced ten new compact UMTS Power Amplifier Modules that maximize handset talk time and extend battery life. UMTS Bands 1, 2, 4, 5 and 8 are supported. "In the ACPM-500x and the ACPM-520x series, we have incorporated our tier-one customer requirements for an integrated directional coupler, multi-mode power control, low current, and high PAE (power added efficiency)," said James Wilson, Marketing Director of Avago Technologies. "The directional coupler is a real cost saving feature for all handset makers, and the improved efficiency will give most users longer talk time."
